Bryan Medina

Quality Assurance Engineer

I find out why software breaks, then build the tests and tooling that keep it from breaking again. Today that means hardware and firmware QA at TP-Link; before that, triaging regressions in WebKit's CI at Apple.

01 · About

Quality is an engineering problem.

I'm a Cal State Fullerton computer science graduate who gravitated toward the part of software most people avoid: figuring out what went wrong. At Apple I worked on WebKit regression test integrity, where I was the first point of contact for incoming test failures across iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

That work taught me to read CI logs quickly, tell a product defect from an infrastructure hiccup, and write the scripts that make the next triage shorter. I now apply it to hardware and firmware validation as a QA engineer, and to my own projects, which tend to ship with more tests than features.

Before any of that I designed and taught a programming course for more than 300 students, which is where I learned to explain technical things plainly.

02 · Experience

Where I've worked.

May 2026 – Present

QA Engineer

TP-Link Systems Inc.

  • Execute test plans and document findings across hardware and firmware validation cycles, tracking defects to resolution in Jira.
  • Communicate system status, test findings, and planned changes to engineering and program management teams.
  • Build Python automation for data collection and reporting, cutting manual overhead across test cycles.

Jun 2025 – Nov 2025

WebKit Regression Test Integrity QE Engineer (Internship)

Apple

  • First point of contact for incoming test failures, triaging and filing multiple bugs daily and driving them to resolution across teams.
  • Validated automated test results across iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS build trains within WebKit's CI infrastructure.
  • Analyzed CI logs and historical test data to isolate regressions and separate product defects from infrastructure issues.
  • Improved regression detection scripts and internal tooling to sharpen failure identification and cut triage time.
  • Rebaselined layout tests after behavioral or visual changes to keep CI outcomes stable.

Aug 2021 – May 2026

Technical Specialist

Apple

  • Provided Tier 1/2 technical support for hardware, software, and connectivity issues across Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch in a high-volume walk-in environment.
  • Performed hands-on hardware diagnostics and component-level troubleshooting to find the root cause of failures.
  • Ran one-on-one and small-group sessions, explaining technical findings to people of every skill level.

Mar 2020 – Aug 2020

CS Instructor and Course Designer

TGR Foundation

  • Designed and taught “What's ‘App’ening in Computer Science,” a virtual course for 300+ students in the Los Angeles County School District.
  • Led a team of certified instructors teaching introductory Java programming.

Things I've built.

Capstone · Full stack

Parfummelier

A fragrance recommendation web app built as a senior capstone. It uses curated scent data and quizzes to learn what a person likes, then suggests fragrances and gives them forums to talk about it.

  • TypeScript frontend with Python services behind an API gateway
  • Containerized with Docker Compose for dev, test, and production
  • Custom scripts to scrape, clean, and map scent data
  • TypeScript
  • Python
  • Docker
  • MongoDB

Tooling · Desktop

USB Performance Tool

A desktop app that benchmarks USB storage plugged into a router over SMB. It runs a matrix of transfers, verifies every file by checksum, and judges each result against per-file-size thresholds.

  • Deterministic test files verified against SHA-256 manifests
  • Flags cached or physically impossible speeds
  • Reports as HTML with charts, Excel dashboards, CSV, and JSON
  • Python
  • Tkinter
  • xlsxwriter
  • PyInstaller

Contact Book

A contacts app modeled on iOS Contacts, built for a software engineering course. It has accounts, rich contact details, and a few integrations that go past the basics.

  • Looks up a contact's city from their area code
  • SMS notifications through the Twilio API
  • Login and registration backed by a local database
  • Python
  • SQLite
  • Twilio
